B&W vs Color

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Making the decision to convert an image to black and white is not always easy. Sometimes it’s done purely for technical reasons… maybe the origin color version just doesn’t work… too busy or maybe you need to hide something like chromatic aberration and you don’t know how to correct it with your software(correcting it is another blog post). This image is fine in color. I like it a lot but the black and white version, in my opinion, focuses more on the light in this image and adds to the overall mood.

It was a full and productive day of shooting, laughter and fun. At the end of the day, I’m sure we were all a bit achy… I sure was :D

Architectural Stroll

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

I am not an architectural photographer but I’m learning to embrace it. lol. Last weekend was a fun time doing just that. Shooting things that didn’t move, for a change.

Inside the High Museum of Art.

She knows her archi. I have lots to learn from her.

I shot at night for the first time. I think I’m hooked. These are the colors of this shot. No over saturation… just a crazy long exposure. I have much to learn about night photography but this was a fun start.

Oh, and one more thing… my Nikon D300 did just grand at ISO 100 but I can’t wait to see what the 5D II would do :D
